How about the truck, this 1955 Chevy 3100 First Series 5 Window Pickup?

1955 Chevy 3100 First Series 5 Window Pickup

What’s interesting about this Chevy Pickup is that it has the body of the 1947 – 1954 Advanced Series – but it’s a 1955! Notice the grille – it’s not the plain horizontal chrome or painted metal. The grille has a neat-looking pointed centerpiece and three horizontal bars – which I think looks much better than the older grille.

That said, I don’t think there is much real difference from this 1955 and the 1947 – 1954 Advanced series. Good, sturdy trucks, they powered a nation with their six-cylinder engines and manual transmissions. No frills here – just pure truck!

S-10 5-speed Transmission – A Bonus!

The seller states it has a “strong running” 236 six with an upgrade – a Chevy S-10 5-speed transmission! This overdriven transmission should make highway travel easier because the engine won’t be revving as high due to that numerically high rear-end ratio.

Engine Rebuilt – Maybe?

No odd noises or smoke, he states that the previous owner said the engine was rebuilt. Without proof, take claims like that with a grain of salt. In this case, you’re going to have to listen to the engine yourself to determine if it “sounds right.”

Box, Cab And Cab Bottom Repainted

The pickup box was removed at one time and was sandblasted, then shot with grey primer. The bed has some dings and holes. What 68-year-old truck doesn’t have some battle scars? Most of the interior has been sanded and repainted with Duplicolor – carefully, he says. Most of the cab bottom and about half of the frame were sanded down and painted. That’s kind of nice, sanding the frame is a dirty dob!

The truck was converted to 12 volt and the seller says that it charges well. There is an electric fuel pump – GREAT for preventing vapor lock!

Other minor things like lenses and bed chains were replaced.

The Old Chevy Has Some Rust And Body Damage…

The truck does have some rust. The passenger door is rusted out at the bottom, but a good replacement door is included! The driver front fender has some damage that was badly welded and cracked bondo. Grille has some bondo as well. No mention of replacement parts included.

The Brakes Need Work!

The seller states that the “brakes barely work.” The passenger rear wheel cylinder is leaking. You will want to do a complete brake job on this girl before your Sunday drive!
