Here’s a fact that I’ll bet you didn’t know: the Oldsmobile Cutlass was the best-selling car in the United States from 1976 until 1983! And now, General Motors has completely abandoned the Oldsmobile name. How in the world did that happen? Simply put, I believe that Oldsmobile (as well as GM) were resting on their laurels from all those great years and never developed a great successor as market conditions changed dramatically in the 1980’s.
This nice-looking 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme represents one of the best collector car buys these days.
With a body like the Oldsmobile 442 (which had a horsepower rating of up to 370) this Cutlass has a 350 V8, Flo-Thru Ventilation, P/S, P/S, and A/C with suspension upgrades and other nice goodies.
The great news is you can get a body exactly like the 442 with a much nicer driving (albeit less powerful) base engine that will do just fine around town and on the highway, and will give you better gas mileage to boot!
A great alternative to expensive Chevelles of the era, the Oldsmobile Cutlass was a very popular car in its day, and the styling and performance has held up very well over the years.
While not a true “Muscle Car,” the Cutlass still has above-average performance for the era and they are plentiful and still affordable.

The Oldsmobile Cutlass during the 1960’s and early 1970’s were powered by some relatively powerful engines. From the meek and mild two-barrel 350 cubic inch V8 topped with a two-barrel carburetor to the monstrous Rocket 455, horsepower ranged from 200 hp all the way up to 400hp and slightly beyond.
Rugged and reliable (and even luxurious) the Cutlass of this period in history was a near-luxury automobile and priced just above Chevrolets. And, the Cutlass had nearly the performance that the lighter chevies had.
If you really like the GM body styles of this period, you just can’t go wrong with an Oldsmobile Cutlass!
